Haha thanks! I really would love to use a Mac. Windows hardware just seems to have so many more problems. Plus, it would let all my design friends know I’m a cool designer! But, alas practicality prevails. My design workflow is solidly Windows based, at least for the foreseeable future.
Which software keeps you in the Windows world ? is it primarily Solidworks ? I've been working on a Mac Only team for a number of years (after being a diehard windows user) Fusion 360 was the key that untethered us from windows.
It is entirely SolidWorks right now. I'm considering switching to a MacBook Pro and just using Parallels. I don't do a lot of heavy rendering these days, but when I do I think I'll still need a Windows PC with a beefy GPU.
When my team switched to apple silicon, we were shocked at how good it was compared to the outgoing intel based macs we were using. Cooling fans are rarely on; when they are, they are whisper quiet. Not sure which software you are using for rendering, we use keyshot primarily and the performance has been head and shoulders above either high spec pc's or intel based macs from years prior. Another major plus is the battery life, I can work in CAD for 3+ hours on a full charge, my intel mac was less than half of that, and the big PC laptop before it was 45 minutes with fans blazing. To be clear, fusion 360 is no Solidworks , far far from it in my opinion. Was really hoping Solidworks would release something compatible with the mac.
Have you tried running Parallels and SW? I have heard rumors on Reddit that it works decently well but not sure I'm willing to gamble $3-4K on a new MacBook Pro to test it yet haha.
Finally, a none-poser set up with everything a designer needs. (No offence to any industrial designers who still think using a mac is sensible...)

AH ! I didn't realize that parallels supported the M processors. Company policy is to work with Mac's for device management reasons.
